Things we learnt at Camp Fairbairn 2023
by Year 3 and 4DS
If you are going to do something big and scary, take a group of friends you TRUST with you.
Work to overcome your fears – it's worth it.
Always wear a 'harness' if you think you'll fall.
Learn to read the compass before you go navigating.
Choose your canoeing partner carefully, it's too late once you've left the bank.
Try new things – even when you aren't sure, give it a go.
Stay in the middle of the canoe – it solves a lot of problems.
Always trust Gary the bus driver – his spaghetti is delicious!
Before you put your abseiling harness on – go to the toilet.
Communicate with your group so everybody knows what's happening.
Push yourself to your limits – you don't know what you can achieve!
If you get lost, go back to the place where you knew where you were, and start over.
Always look out for potential dangers – electric eels, the Fairbairn Whale, and Beau's crocodile before you go canoeing.
Look where you are going – there is always something somewhere that will try to trip you up.
Tony said we needed lemonade and flour to make a damper – that's it. It was SIMPLE, it just needs to be SIMPLE.
Try to be a good team member and think of others.
Make friends with the Brett the groundsman – he finds cool rocks.
Good friends are good company. Good company means you'll have a good camp.
